Galatians 5

DBY 1 Christ has set us free in freedom; stand fast therefore, and be not held again in a yoke of bondage. NIV 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. DBY 2 Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if ye are circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. NIV 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. DBY 3 And I witness again to every man [who is] circumcised, that he is debtor to do the whole law. NIV 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. DBY 4 Ye are deprived of all profit from the Christ as separated [from him], as many as are justified by law; ye have fallen from grace. NIV 4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. DBY 5 For we, by [the] Spirit, on the principle of faith, await the hope of righteousness. NIV 5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. DBY 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision has any force, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. NIV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. DBY 7 Ye ran well; who has stopped you that ye should not obey the truth? NIV 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? DBY 8 The persuasibleness [is] not of him that calls you. NIV 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. DBY 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. NIV 9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." DBY 10 *I* have confidence as to you in [the] Lord, that ye will have no other mind; and he that is troubling you shall bear the guilt [of it], whosoever he may be. NIV 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. DBY 11 But *I*, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why am I yet persecuted? Then the scandal of the cross has been done away. NIV 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. DBY 12 I would that they would even cut themselves off who throw you into confusion. NIV 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! DBY 13 For *ye* have been called to liberty, brethren; only [do] not [turn] liberty into an opportunity to the flesh, but by love serve one another. NIV 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. DBY 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; NIV 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." DBY 15 but if ye bite and devour one another, see that ye are not consumed one of another. NIV 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. DBY 16 But I say, Walk in [the] Spirit, and ye shall no way fulfil flesh's lust. NIV 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. DBY 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these things are opposed one to the other, that ye should not do those things which ye desire; NIV 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. DBY 18 but if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under law. NIV 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. DBY 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, NIV 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; DBY 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strifes, jealousies, angers, contentions, disputes, schools of opinion, NIV 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions DBY 21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revels, and things like these; as to which I tell you beforehand, even as I also have said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit God's kingdom. NIV 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. DBY 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, fidelity, NIV 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, DBY 23 meekness, self-control: against such things there is no law. NIV 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. DBY 24 But they that [are] of the Christ have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts. NIV 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. DBY 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us walk also by the Spirit. NIV 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. DBY 26 Let us not become vain-glorious, provoking one another, envying one another. NIV 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
