Galatians 5:13-26

RSV 13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another. NIV 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. RSV 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." NIV 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." RSV 15 But if you bite and devour one another take heed that you are not consumed by one another. NIV 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. RSV 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. NIV 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. RSV 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. NIV 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. RSV 18 But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. NIV 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. RSV 19 Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, NIV 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; RSV 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, NIV 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions RSV 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. NIV 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. RSV 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, NIV 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, RSV 23 gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. NIV 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. RSV 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. NIV 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. RSV 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. NIV 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. RSV 26 Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another. NIV 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
