CJB 1 Here is the genealogy of the sons of Noach - Shem, Ham and Yefet; sons were born to them after the flood. NIV 1 This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. CJB 2 The sons of Yefet were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Yavan, Tuval, Meshekh and Tiras. NIV 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. CJB 3 The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Rifat and Togarmah. NIV 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. CJB 4 The sons of Yavan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. NIV 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim and the Rodanim. CJB 5 From these the islands of the nations were divided into their lands, each according to its language, according to their families, in their nations. NIV 5 (From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.) CJB 6 The sons of Ham were Kush, Mitzrayim, Put and Kena'an. NIV 6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. CJB 7 The sons of Kush were S'va, Havilah, Savta, Ra'mah and Savt'kha. The sons of Ra'mah were Sh'va and D'dan. NIV 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. CJB 8 Kush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful ruler on earth. NIV 8 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. CJB 9 He was a mighty hunter before ADONAI- this is why people say, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before ADONAI." NIV 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." CJB 10 His kingdom began with Bavel, Erekh, Akkad and Kalneh, in the land of Shin'ar. NIV 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. CJB 11 Ashur went out from that land and built Ninveh, the city Rechovot, Kelach, NIV 11 From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah CJB 12 and Resen between Ninveh and Kelach - that one is the great city. NIV 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. CJB 13 Mitzrayim fathered the Ludim, the 'Anamim, the L'havim, the Naftuchim, NIV 13 Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, CJB 14 the Patrusim, the Kasluchim (from whom came the P'lishtim) and the Kaftorim. NIV 14 Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites. CJB 15 Kena'an fathered Tzidon his firstborn, Het, NIV 15 Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, CJB 16 the Y'vusi, the Emori, the Girgashi, NIV 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, CJB 17 the Hivi, the 'Arki, the Sini, NIV 17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, CJB 18 the Arvadi, the Tz'mari and the Hamati. Afterwards, the families of the Kena'ani were dispersed. NIV 18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered CJB 19 The border of the Kena'ani was from Tzidon, as you go toward G'rar, to 'Azah; as you go toward S'dom, 'Amora, Admah and Tzvoyim, to Lesha. NIV 19 and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. CJB 20 These were the descendants of Ham, according to their families and languages, in their lands and in their nations. NIV 20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. CJB 21 Children were also born to Shem, ancestor of all the descendants of 'Ever and older brother of Yefet. NIV 21 Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber. CJB 22 The sons of Shem were'Elam, Ashur, Arpakhshad, Lud and Aram. NIV 22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. CJB 23 The sons of Aram were 'Utz, Hul, Geter and Mash. NIV 23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. CJB 24 Arpakhshad fathered Shelach, and Shelach fathered 'Ever. NIV 24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah the father of Eber. CJB 25 To 'Ever were born two sons. One was given the name Peleg [division], because during his lifetime the earth was divided. His brother's name was Yoktan. NIV 25 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. CJB 26 Yoktan fathered Almodad, Shelef, Hatzar-Mavet, Yerach, NIV 26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, CJB 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, NIV 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, CJB 28 'Oval, Avima'el, Sheva, NIV 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, CJB 29 Ofir, Havilah and Yovav - all these were the sons of Yoktan. NIV 29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan. CJB 30 Their territory stretched from Mesha, as you go toward S'far, to the mountain in the east. NIV 30 The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country. CJB 31 These were the descendants of Shem, according to their families and languages, in their lands and in their nations. NIV 31 These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. CJB 32 These were the families of the sons of Noach, according to their generations, in their nations. From these the nations of the earth were divided up after the flood. NIV 32 These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
