NAS 1 Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood. NIV 1 This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. NAS 2 The sons of Japheth were Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras. NIV 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. NAS 3 The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah. NIV 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. NAS 4 The sons of Javan were Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. NIV 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim and the Rodanim. NAS 5 From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations. NIV 5 (From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.) NAS 6 The sons of Ham were Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan. NIV 6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. NAS 7 The sons of Cush were Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. NIV 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. NAS 8 Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth. NIV 8 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. NAS 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD ; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD ." NIV 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." NAS 10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. NIV 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. NAS 11 From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah, NIV 11 From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah NAS 12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. NIV 14 Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites. NAS 15 Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth NIV 15 Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, NAS 16 and the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite NIV 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, NAS 17 and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite NIV 17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, NAS 18 and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. NIV 18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered NAS 19 The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. NIV 19 and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. NAS 20 These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations. NIV 20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. NAS 21 Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth, children were born. NIV 21 Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber. NAS 22 The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram. NIV 22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. NAS 23 The sons of Aram were Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash. NIV 23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. NAS 24 Arpachshad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber. NIV 24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah the father of Eber. NAS 25 Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. NIV 25 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. NAS 26 Joktan became the father of Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah NIV 26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, NAS 27 and Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah NIV 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, NAS 28 and Obal and Abimael and Sheba NIV 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, NAS 29 and Ophir and Havilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. NIV 29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan. NAS 30 Now their settlement extended from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the hill country of the east. NIV 30 The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country. NAS 31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, according to their nations. NIV 31 These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. NAS 32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood. NIV 32 These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
