NKJV 1 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations, NIV 1 At this time Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goiim NKJV 2 that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). NIV 2 went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). NKJV 3 All these joined together in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea). NIV 3 All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (the Salt Sea). NKJV 4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. NIV 4 For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled. NKJV 14 Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. NIV 14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. NKJV 15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. NIV 15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. NKJV 16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people. NIV 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people. NKJV 17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him. NIV 17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). NKJV 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. NIV 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, NKJV 19 And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; NIV 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. NKJV 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all. NIV 20 And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. NKJV 21 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself." NIV 21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself." NKJV 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, NIV 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath NKJV 23 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich'-- NIV 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.' NKJV 24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion." NIV 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me--to Aner, Eshcol and Mamre. Let them have their share."
