Genesis 36

LEB 1 Now these [are] the descendants of Esau (that [is], Edom). NIV 1 This is the account of Esau (that is, Edom). LEB 2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah, daughter of Elon, the Hittite, and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite, NIV 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite-- LEB 3 and Basemath, the daughter of Ishmael, the sister of Nebaioth. NIV 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. LEB 4 And Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz; and Basemath bore Reuel; NIV 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, LEB 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush and Jalam, and Korah. These [are] the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan. NIV 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. LEB 6 And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters, and all the persons of his household, and his sheep and goats, and all his cattle, and all the goods that he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to a land away from his brother Jacob. NIV 6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. LEB 7 For their possessions were {too many to live together}, so that the land of their sojourning was not able to support them on account of their livestock. NIV 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. LEB 8 So Esau dwelled in the hill country of Seir (Esau, that [is] Edom). NIV 8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. These [are] the sons of Adah, the wife of Esau. NIV 12 Esau's son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were grandsons of Esau's wife Adah. LEB 13 Now these [are] the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These [are] the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau. NIV 13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. LEB 14 Now these [are] the sons of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon, the wife of Esau: She bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. NIV 14 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah. LEB 15 These [are] the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau: the chiefs of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, NIV 15 These were the chiefs among Esau's descendants: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, LEB 16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These [are] the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom. These [are] the sons of Adah. NIV 16 Korah, Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons of Adah. These [are] the chiefs born of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the wife of Esau. NIV 18 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah. LEB 19 These [are] the sons of Esau, and these [are] their chiefs (that [is], Edom). These [are] the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. NIV 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs. LEB 22 And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam. And Lotan's sister [was] Timna. NIV 22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan's sister. LEB 23 Now these [are] the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. NIV 23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. LEB 24 Now these [are] the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah--he [is] Anah who found the hot springs in the desert while he pastured the donkeys of Zibeon his father. NIV 24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon. LEB 25 Now these [are] the sons of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah. NIV 25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. LEB 26 Now these [are] the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran. NIV 26 The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. LEB 27 These [are] the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. NIV 27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. LEB 28 These [are] the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. LEB 31 Now these [are] the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the {Israelites}. NIV 31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned: LEB 32 Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom. And the name of his city [was] Dinhabah. NIV 32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah. LEB 33 And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah, reigned in his place. NIV 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king. LEB 34 And Jobab died, and Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. NIV 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king. LEB 35 And Husham died, and Hadad, son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the field of Moab reigned in his place. And the name of his city [was] Avith. NIV 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. LEB 36 And Hadad died, and Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his place. NIV 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. LEB 37 And Samlah died, and Shaul from Rehoboth [on] the Euphrates reigned in his place. NIV 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. LEB 38 And Shaul died, and Baal-Hanan, the son of Acbor, reigned in his place. NIV 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor succeeded him as king. LEB 39 And Baal-Hanan the son of Acbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place. And the name of his city [was] Pau, and the name of his wife [was] Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab. NIV 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. LEB 40 Now these [are] the names of the chiefs of Esau according to their families, according to their dwelling places, by their names: the chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, NIV 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, LEB 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, NIV 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, LEB 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, NIV 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, LEB 43 Magdiel, and Iram. These [are] the chiefs of Edom (that [is], Esau, the father of Edom) according to their settlements in the land of their possession. NIV 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This was Esau the father of the Edomites.
