Genesis 3:7-19

NLT 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. NIV 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. NLT 8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the God among the trees. NIV 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. NLT 9 Then the God called to the man, “Where are you?” NIV 9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" NLT 10 He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” NIV 10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." NLT 11 “Who told you that you were naked?” the God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?” NIV 11 And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" NLT 12 The man replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” NIV 12 The man said, "The woman you put here with me--she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." NLT 13 Then the God asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.” NIV 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." NLT 14 Then the God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live. NIV 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. NLT 15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” NIV 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." NLT 16 Then he said to the woman, “I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth. And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you. ” NIV 16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." NLT 17 And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. NIV 17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. NLT 18 It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. NIV 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. NLT 19 By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.” NIV 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."
