Genesis 4:4-8

NLT 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The accepted Abel and his gift, NIV 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, NLT 5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected. NIV 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. NLT 6 “Why are you so angry?” the asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? NIV 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? NLT 7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” NIV 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." NLT 8 One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him. NIV 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
