Genesis 9

NAS 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. NIV 1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. NAS 2 "The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. NIV 2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. NAS 3 "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. NIV 3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. NAS 4 "Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. NIV 4 "But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. NAS 5 "Surely I will require your lifeblood ; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man's brother I will require the life of man. NIV 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. NAS 6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. NIV 6 "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. NAS 7 "As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it." NIV 7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it." NAS 8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, NIV 8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: NAS 9 "Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; NIV 9 "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you NAS 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. NIV 10 and with every living creature that was with you--the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature on earth. NAS 11 "I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth." NIV 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." NAS 12 God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; NIV 12 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: NAS 13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. NIV 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. NAS 14 "It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, NIV 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, NAS 15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. NIV 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. NAS 16 "When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth." NIV 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." NAS 17 And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth." NIV 17 So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth." NAS 18 Now the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem and Ham and Japheth; and Ham was the father of Canaan. NIV 18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) NAS 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated. NIV 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth. NAS 20 Then Noah began farming and planted a vineyard. NIV 20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. NAS 21 He drank of the wine and became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent. NIV 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. NAS 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. NIV 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside. NAS 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it upon both their shoulders and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were turned away, so that they did not see their father's nakedness. NIV 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father's nakedness. NAS 24 When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest son had done to him. NIV 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, NAS 25 So he said, "Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brothers." NIV 25 he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers." NAS 26 He also said, "Blessed be the LORD , The God of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant. NIV 26 He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. NAS 27 "May God enlarge Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant." NIV 27 May God extend the territory of Japheth; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave." NAS 28 Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood. NIV 28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. NAS 29 So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died. NIV 29 Altogether, Noah lived 950 years, and then he died.
