Haggai 1:1-11

NIV 5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. NLT 6 You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! NIV 6 You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it." NLT 7 “This is what the of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! NIV 7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. NLT 8 Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the . NIV 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD. NLT 9 You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses. NIV 9 "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house. NLT 10 It’s because of you that the heavens withhold the dew and the earth produces no crops. NIV 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. NLT 11 I have called for a drought on your fields and hills—a drought to wither the grain and grapes and olive trees and all your other crops, a drought to starve you and your livestock and to ruin everything you have worked so hard to get.” NIV 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands."
