Hebrews 10

CSB 1 Since the law has [only] a shadow of the good things to come, and not the actual form of those realities, it can never perfect the worshipers by the same sacrifices they continually offer year after year. NIV 1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. CSB 2 Otherwise, wouldn't they have stopped being offered, since the worshipers, once purified, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? NIV 2 If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. CSB 3 But in the sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. NIV 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, CSB 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. NIV 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. CSB 5 Therefore, as He was coming into the world, He said: You did not want sacrifice and offering, but You prepared a body for Me. NIV 5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; CSB 6 You did not delight in whole burnt offerings and sin offerings. NIV 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. CSB 7 Then I said, "See, I have come- it is written about Me in the volume of the scroll- to do Your will, O God!" NIV 7 Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.' " CSB 8 After He says above, You did not desire or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings, (which are offered according to the law), NIV 8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). CSB 9 He then says, See, I have come to do Your will. He takes away the first to establish the second. NIV 9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. CSB 10 By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. NIV 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. CSB 11 Now every priest stands day after day ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. NIV 11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. CSB 12 But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. NIV 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. CSB 13 He is now waiting until His enemies are made His footstool. NIV 13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, CSB 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. NIV 14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. CSB 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after He had said: NIV 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: CSB 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws on their hearts, and I will write them on their minds, NIV 16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." CSB 17 [He adds]: I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts. NIV 17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." CSB 18 Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. NIV 18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. CSB 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus, NIV 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, CSB 20 by the new and living way that He has inaugurated for us, through the curtain (that is, His flesh); NIV 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, CSB 21 and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, NIV 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, CSB 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled [clean] from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. NIV 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. CSB 23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. NIV 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. CSB 24 And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, NIV 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. CSB 25 not staying away from our meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. NIV 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. CSB 26 For if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, NIV 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, CSB 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. NIV 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. CSB 28 If anyone disregards Moses' law, he dies without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses. NIV 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. CSB 29 How much worse punishment, do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of grace? NIV 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? CSB 30 For we know the One who has said, Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay, and again, The Lord will judge His people. NIV 30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." CSB 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God! NIV 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. CSB 32 Remember the earlier days when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings. NIV 32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. CSB 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to taunts and afflictions, and at other times you were companions of those who were treated that way. NIV 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. CSB 34 For you sympathized with the prisoners and accepted with joy the confiscation of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves have a better and enduring possession. NIV 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. CSB 35 So don't throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. NIV 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. CSB 36 For you need endurance, so that after you have done God's will, you may receive what was promised. NIV 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. CSB 37 For in yet a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. NIV 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. CSB 38 But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him. NIV 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." CSB 39 But we are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and obtain life. NIV 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
