Hebrews 10

NAS 1 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. NIV 1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. NAS 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? NIV 2 If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. NAS 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. NIV 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, NAS 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. NIV 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. NAS 5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME; NIV 5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; NAS 6 IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE. NIV 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. NAS 7 "THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.' " NIV 7 Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.' " NAS 8 After saying above, "SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them" (which are offered according to the Law ), NIV 8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). NAS 9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second. NIV 9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. NAS 10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NIV 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NAS 11 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; NIV 11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. NAS 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, NIV 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. NAS 13 waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. NIV 13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, NAS 14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. NIV 14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. NAS 15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, NIV 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: NAS 16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD : I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," He then says, NIV 16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." NAS 17 "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." NIV 17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." NAS 18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. NIV 18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. NAS 19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, NIV 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, NAS 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, NIV 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, NAS 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, NIV 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, NAS 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. NIV 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. NAS 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; NIV 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. NAS 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, NIV 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. NAS 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. NIV 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. NAS 26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, NIV 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, NAS 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. NIV 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. NAS 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. NIV 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. NAS 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? NIV 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? NAS 30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." NIV 30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." NAS 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NIV 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NAS 32 But remember the former days, when , after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, NIV 32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. NAS 33 partly by being made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated. NIV 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. NAS 34 For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and a lasting one. NIV 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. NAS 35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. NIV 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. NAS 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. NIV 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. NAS 37 FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. NIV 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. NAS 38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. NIV 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." NAS 39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. NIV 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
