Hebrews 10

NKJV 1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. NIV 1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. NKJV 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. NIV 2 If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. NKJV 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. NIV 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, NKJV 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. NIV 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. NKJV 5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. NIV 5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; NKJV 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. NIV 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. NKJV 7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come-- In the volume of the book it is written of Me-- To do Your will, O God.' " NIV 7 Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.' " NKJV 8 Previously saying, "Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" (which are offered according to the law), NIV 8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). NKJV 9 then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. NIV 9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. NKJV 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NIV 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NKJV 11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. NIV 11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. NKJV 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, NIV 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. NKJV 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. NIV 13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, NKJV 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. NIV 14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. NKJV 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, NIV 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: NKJV 16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," NIV 16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." NKJV 17 then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." NIV 17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." NKJV 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. NIV 18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. NKJV 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, NIV 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, NKJV 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, NIV 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, NKJV 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, NIV 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, NKJV 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. NIV 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. NKJV 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. NIV 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. NKJV 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, NIV 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. NKJV 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. NIV 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. NKJV 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, NIV 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, NKJV 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. NIV 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. NKJV 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. NIV 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. NKJV 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? NIV 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? NKJV 30 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The Lord will judge His people." NIV 30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." NKJV 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NIV 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NKJV 32 But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: NIV 32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. NKJV 33 partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; NIV 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. NKJV 34 for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. NIV 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. NKJV 35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. NIV 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. NKJV 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: NIV 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. NKJV 37 "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. NIV 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. NKJV 38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." NIV 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." NKJV 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. NIV 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
