Hebrews 12:18-29

CSB 18 For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm, NIV 18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; CSB 19 to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of words. (Those who heard it begged that not another word be spoken to them, NIV 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, CSB 20 for they could not bear what was commanded: And if even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned! NIV 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned." CSB 21 And the appearance was so terrifying that Moses said, I am terrified and trembling. ) NIV 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am trembling with fear." CSB 22 Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, NIV 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, CSB 23 to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect, NIV 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, CSB 24 to Jesus (mediator of a new covenant), and to the sprinkled blood, which says better things than the [blood] of Abel. NIV 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. CSB 25 See that you do not reject the One who speaks; for if they did not escape when they rejected Him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from Him who warns us from heaven. NIV 25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? CSB 26 His voice shook the earth at that time, but now He has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also heaven. NIV 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens." CSB 27 Now this expression, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of what can be shaken-that is, created things-so that what is not shaken might remain. NIV 27 The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain. CSB 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe; NIV 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, CSB 29 for our God is a consuming fire. NIV 29 for our "God is a consuming fire."
