Hebrews 13

RSV 1 Let brotherly love continue. NIV 1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. RSV 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. NIV 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. RSV 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them; and those who are ill-treated, since you also are in the body. NIV 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. RSV 4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for God will judge the immoral and adulterous. NIV 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. RSV 5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, "I will never fail you nor forsake you." NIV 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." RSV 6 Hence we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?" NIV 6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" RSV 7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God; consider the outcome of their life, and imitate their faith. RSV 9 Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is well that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited their adherents. NIV 9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. RSV 10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. NIV 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. RSV 11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. NIV 11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. RSV 12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. NIV 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. RSV 13 Therefore let us go forth to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured. NIV 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. RSV 14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city which is to come. NIV 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. RSV 15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. NIV 15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. RSV 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. NIV 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. RSV 17 Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this joyfully, and not sadly, for that would be of no advantage to you. NIV 17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. RSV 18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. NIV 18 Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. RSV 19 I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner. RSV 20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, NIV 20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, RSV 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in you that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. NIV 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
