Hosea 11:1-4

RSV 1 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. NIV 1 "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. RSV 2 The more I called them, the more they went from me; they kept sacrificing to the Ba'als, and burning incense to idols. NIV 2 But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. RSV 3 Yet it was I who taught E'phraim to walk, I took them up in my arms; but they did not know that I healed them. NIV 3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them. RSV 4 I led them with cords of compassion, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one, who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them. NIV 4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them.
