Hosea 7

CSB 1 when I heal Israel, the sins of Ephraim and the crimes of Samaria will be exposed. For they practice fraud; a thief breaks in; a gang pillages outside. NIV 1 whenever I would heal Israel, the sins of Ephraim are exposed and the crimes of Samaria revealed. They practice deceit, thieves break into houses, bandits rob in the streets; CSB 2 But they never consider that I remember all their evil. Now their sins are all around them; they are right in front of My face. NIV 2 but they do not realize that I remember all their evil deeds. Their sins engulf them; they are always before me. CSB 3 They please the king with their evil, the princes with their lies. NIV 3 "They delight the king with their wickedness, the princes with their lies. CSB 4 All of them commit adultery; [they are] like an oven heated by a baker who stops stirring [the fire] from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened. NIV 4 They are all adulterers, burning like an oven whose fire the baker need not stir from the kneading of the dough till it rises. CSB 5 On the day of our king, the princes are sick with the heat of wine- there is a conspiracy with traitors. NIV 5 On the day of the festival of our king the princes become inflamed with wine, and he joins hands with the mockers. CSB 6 For they-their hearts like an oven- draw him into their oven. Their anger smolders all night; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. NIV 6 Their hearts are like an oven; they approach him with intrigue. Their passion smolders all night; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. CSB 7 All of them are as hot as an oven, and they consume their rulers. All their kings fall; not one of them calls on Me. NIV 7 All of them are hot as an oven; they devour their rulers. All their kings fall, and none of them calls on me. CSB 8 Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread, baked on a griddle. NIV 8 "Ephraim mixes with the nations; Ephraim is a flat cake not turned over. CSB 9 Foreigners consume his strength, but he does not notice. Even his hair is streaked with gray, but he does not notice. NIV 9 Foreigners sap his strength, but he does not realize it. His hair is sprinkled with gray, but he does not notice. CSB 10 Israel's arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to the Lord their God, and for all this, they do not seek Him. NIV 10 Israel's arrogance testifies against him, but despite all this he does not return to the LORD his God or search for him. CSB 11 So Ephraim has become like a silly, senseless dove; they call to Egypt, and they go to Assyria. NIV 11 "Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless-- now calling to Egypt, now turning to Assyria. CSB 12 As they are going, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the sky. I will discipline them in accordance with the news that reaches their assembly. NIV 12 When they go, I will throw my net over them; I will pull them down like birds of the air. When I hear them flocking together, I will catch them. CSB 13 Woe to them, for they fled from Me; destruction to them, for they rebelled against Me! Though I want to redeem [them], they speak lies against Me. NIV 13 Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak lies against me. CSB 14 They do not cry to Me from their hearts; rather, they wail on their beds. They slash themselves for grain and wine; they turn away from Me. NIV 14 They do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail upon their beds. They gather together for grain and new wine but turn away from me. CSB 15 I trained and strengthened their arms, but they plot evil against Me. NIV 15 I trained them and strengthened them, but they plot evil against me. CSB 16 They turn, but not to what is above; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of the cursing of their tongue. They will be ridiculed for this in the land of Egypt. NIV 16 They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
