Isaiah 2

CJB 1 This is the word that Yesha'yahu the son of Amotz saw concerning Y'hudah and Yerushalayim: NIV 1 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: CJB 2 In the acharit-hayamim the mountain of ADONAI's house will be established as the most important mountain. It will be regarded more highly than the other hills, and all the Goyim will stream there. NIV 2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. CJB 3 Many peoples will go and say, "Come, let's go up to the mountain of ADONAI, to the house of the God of Ya'akov! He will teach us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths." For out of Tziyon will go forth Torah, the word of ADONAI from Yerushalayim. NIV 3 Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. CJB 4 He will judge between the nations and arbitrate for many peoples. Then they will hammer their swords into plow-blades and their spears into pruning-knives; nations will not raise swords at each other, and they will no longer learn war. NIV 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. CJB 5 Descendants of Ya'akov, come! Let's live in the light of ADONAI! NIV 5 Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD. CJB 6 For you have abandoned your people the house of Ya'akov. Now they are filled from the east, full of sorcerers, like the P'lishtim; even the children of foreigners are enough for them! NIV 6 You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and clasp hands with pagans. CJB 7 Their land is full of silver and gold; They have no end of treasures. Their land is full of horses; They have no end of chariots. NIV 7 Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. CJB 8 Their land is full of idols; everyone worships the work of his hands, what his own fingers have made. NIV 8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. CJB 9 A person bows down, a man lowers himself - don't forgive them! NIV 9 So man will be brought low and mankind humbled-- do not forgive them. CJB 10 Come into the rock, hide in the dust to escape the terror of ADONAI and the glory of his majesty. NIV 10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty! CJB 11 The proud looks of man will be humiliated; the arrogance of men will be bowed down; and when that day comes, ADONAI alone will be exalted. NIV 11 The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. CJB 12 Yes, ADONAI-Tzva'ot has a day in store for all who are proud and lofty, for all who are lifted high to be humiliated; NIV 12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled), CJB 13 for all cedars of the L'vanon that are high and lifted up, for all the oaks of the Bashan; NIV 13 for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, CJB 14 for all the high mountains, for all the hills that are lifted up; NIV 14 for all the towering mountains and all the high hills, CJB 15 for every high tower, for every fortified wall; NIV 15 for every lofty tower and every fortified wall, CJB 16 for every "Tarshish" ship, for every luxurious vessel. NIV 16 for every trading ship and every stately vessel. CJB 17 The pride of man will be bowed down, the arrogance of men will be humiliated, and when that day comes, ADONAI alone will be exalted. NIV 17 The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, CJB 18 The idols will be completely abolished. NIV 18 and the idols will totally disappear. CJB 19 People will enter cracks in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the terror of ADONAI and his glorious majesty, when he sets out to convulse the earth. NIV 19 Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. CJB 20 On that day a man will take hold of his idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship, and fling them away to the moles and bats! NIV 20 In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. CJB 21 Then they will enter the cracks in the rocks and the crevices in the cliffs to escape the terror of ADONAI and his glorious majesty, when he sets out to convulse the earth. NIV 21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. CJB 22 Stop relying on man, in whose nostrils is a mere breath - after all, he doesn't count for much, does he? NIV 22 Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
