RHE 1 And now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, and called thee by thy name: thou art mine. NIV 1 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. RHE 2 When thou shalt pass through the waters, I will be with thee, and the rivers shall not cover thee: when thou shalt walk in the fire, thou shalt not be burnt, and the flames shall not burn in thee: NIV 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. RHE 3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I have given Egypt for thy atonement, Ethiopia and Saba for thee. NIV 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. RHE 4 Since thou becamest honourable in my eyes, thou art glorious: I have loved thee, and I will give men for thee, and people for thy life. NIV 4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life. RHE 5 Fear not, for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west. NIV 5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. RHE 6 I will say to the north: Give up: and to the south: Keep not back: bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth. NIV 6 I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth-- RHE 7 And every one that calleth upon my name, I have created him for my glory. I have formed him, and made him. NIV 7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." RHE 8 Bring forth the people that are blind, and have eyes: that are deaf, and have ears. NIV 8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf. RHE 9 All the nations are assembled together, and the tribes are gathered: who among you can declare this, and shall make us hear the former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, let them be justified, and hear, and say: It is truth. NIV 9 All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of them foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right, so that others may hear and say, "It is true." RHE 10 You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know, and believe me, and understand that I myself am. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there shall be none. NIV 10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. RHE 11 I am, I am the Lord: and there is no saviour besides me. NIV 11 I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. RHE 12 I have declared, and have saved. I have made it heard, and there was no strange one among you. You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and I am God. NIV 12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-- I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God. RHE 13 And from the beginning I am the same, and there is none that can deliver out of my hind: I will work, and who shall turn it away? NIV 13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?" RHE 14 Thus saith the Lord your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their bars, and the Chaldeans glorying in their ships. NIV 14 This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took pride. RHE 15 I am the Lord your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. NIV 15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King." RHE 16 Thus saith the Lord, who made a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters. NIV 16 This is what the LORD says-- he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, RHE 17 Who brought forth the chariot and the horse, the army and the strong: they lay down to sleep together, and they shall not rise again: they are broken as flax, and are extinct. NIV 17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: RHE 18 Remember not former things, and look not on things of old. NIV 18 "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. RHE 19 Behold I do new things, and now they shall spring forth, verily you shall know them: I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. NIV 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. RHE 20 The beast of the field shall glorify me, the dragons and the ostriches: because I have given waters in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, to my chosen. NIV 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, RHE 21 This people have I formed for myself, they shall shew forth my praise. NIV 21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. RHE 22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob, neither hast thou laboured about me, O Israel. NIV 22 "Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, O Israel. RHE 23 Thou hast not offered me the ram of thy holocaust, nor hast thou glorified me with thy victims: I have not caused thee to serve with oblations, nor wearied thee with incense. NIV 23 You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands for incense. RHE 24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy victims. But thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thy iniquities. NIV 24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses. RHE 25 I am, I am he that blot out thy iniquities for my own sake, and I will not remember thy sins. NIV 25 "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. RHE 26 Put me in remembrance, and let us plead together: tell if thou hast any thing to justify thyself. NIV 26 Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence. RHE 27 Thy first father sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me. NIV 27 Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me. RHE 28 And I have profaned the holy princes, I have given Jacob to slaughter, and Israel to reproach. NIV 28 So I will disgrace the dignitaries of your temple, and I will consign Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.
