Isaiah 45

NAS 1 Thus says the LORD to Cyrus His anointed, Whom I have taken by the right hand, To subdue nations before him And to loose the loins of kings; To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: NIV 1 "This is what the LORD says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: NAS 2 "I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron bars. NIV 2 I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. NAS 3 "I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden wealth of secret places, So that you may know that it is I, The LORD , the God of Israel, who calls you by your name. NIV 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. NAS 4 "For the sake of Jacob My servant, And Israel My chosen one, I have also called you by your name; I have given you a title of honor Though you have not known Me. NIV 4 For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me. NAS 5 "I am the LORD , and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me; NIV 5 I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, NAS 6 That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD , and there is no other, NIV 6 so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. NAS 7 The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these. NIV 7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things. NAS 8 "Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, And righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD , have created it. NIV 8 "You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it. NAS 9 "Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker - An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?' Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands '? NIV 9 "Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker, to him who is but a potsherd among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'He has no hands'? NAS 10 "Woe to him who says to a father, 'What are you begetting?' Or to a woman, 'To what are you giving birth?' " NIV 10 Woe to him who says to his father, 'What have you begotten?' or to his mother, 'What have you brought to birth?' NAS 11 Thus says the LORD , the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: "Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons, And you shall commit to Me the work of My hands. NIV 11 "This is what the LORD says-- the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands? NAS 12 "It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it. I stretched out the heavens with My hands And I ordained all their host. NIV 12 It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts. NAS 13 "I have aroused him in righteousness And I will make all his ways smooth; He will build My city and will let My exiles go free, Without any payment or reward," says the LORD of hosts. NIV 13 I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the LORD Almighty." NAS 14 Thus says the LORD , "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush And the Sabeans, men of stature, Will come over to you and will be yours; They will walk behind you, they will come over in chains And will bow down to you; They will make supplication to you: 'Surely, God is with you, and there is none else, No other God.' " NIV 14 This is what the LORD says: "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and those tall Sabeans-- they will come over to you and will be yours; they will trudge behind you, coming over to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you, saying, 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other god.' " NAS 15 Truly, You are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, Savior! NIV 15 Truly you are a God who hides himself, O God and Savior of Israel. NAS 16 They will be put to shame and even humiliated, all of them; The manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation. NIV 16 All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced; they will go off into disgrace together. NAS 17 Israel has been saved by the LORD With an everlasting salvation; You will not be put to shame or humiliated To all eternity. NIV 17 But Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting. NAS 18 For thus says the LORD , who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited ), "I am the LORD , and there is none else. NIV 18 For this is what the LORD says-- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited-- he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other. NAS 19 "I have not spoken in secret, In some dark land; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, 'Seek Me in a waste place '; I, the LORD , speak righteousness, Declaring things that are upright. NIV 19 I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right. NAS 20 "Gather yourselves and come; Draw near together, you fugitives of the nations; They have no knowledge, Who carry about their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save. NIV 20 "Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save. NAS 21 "Declare and set forth your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the LORD ? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me. NIV 21 Declare what is to be, present it-- let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. NAS 22 "Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other. NIV 22 "Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. NAS 23 "I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance. NIV 23 By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. NAS 24 "They will say of Me, 'Only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.' Men will come to Him, And all who were angry at Him will be put to shame. NIV 24 They will say of me, 'In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.' " All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame. NAS 25 "In the LORD all the offspring of Israel Will be justified and will glory." NIV 25 But in the LORD all the descendants of Israel will be found righteous and will exult.
