Isaiah 46

DBY 1 Bel is bowed down, Nebo bendeth; their idols are upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: the things ye carried are laid on, a burden to the weary [beast]. NIV 1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary. DBY 2 They bend, they are bowed down together; they could not deliver the burden, and themselves are gone into captivity. NIV 2 They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity. DBY 3 Hearken unto me, house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, ye who have been borne from the belly, who have been carried from the womb: NIV 3 "Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. DBY 4 Even to old age, I [am] HE, and unto hoary hairs I will carry [you]: It is I that have made, and I will bear, and I will carry, and will deliver. NIV 4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. DBY 5 To whom will ye liken me and make me equal, or compare me, that we may be like? NIV 5 "To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? DBY 6 -- They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance; they hire a goldsmith, and he maketh it a ·god: they fall down, yea, they worship. NIV 6 Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it. DBY 7 They bear him on the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place; there he standeth, he doth not remove from his place: yea, one crieth unto him, and he answereth not; he saveth him not out of his trouble. NIV 7 They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Though one cries out to it, it does not answer; it cannot save him from his troubles. DBY 8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men; call it to mind, ye transgressors. NIV 8 "Remember this, fix it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. DBY 9 Remember the former things of old; for I [am] God, and there is none else; [I am] God, and there is none like me; NIV 9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. DBY 10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; NIV 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. DBY 11 calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. Yea, I have spoken, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. NIV 11 From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do. DBY 12 Hearken unto me, ye stout-hearted, that are far from righteousness: NIV 12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. DBY 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not delay; and I will give salvation in Zion, [and] unto Israel my glory. NIV 13 I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.
