Common English Bible CEB
New International Version NIV
1 The righteous person perishes, and no one takes it to heart. Loyal people are gathered together, and no one understands that because of evil the righteous one passed away.
1
The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.
2 They will find peace; those who walk in straight paths will find rest on their burial beds.
2
Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.
3 Come here, you children of sorcery, offspring of adultery and prostitution!
3
“But you—come here, you children of a sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!
4 Whom are you mocking? Against whom do you open your mouth wide and stick out your tongue? Aren't you children of rebellion, offspring of lies,
4
Who are you mocking? At whom do you sneer and stick out your tongue? Are you not a brood of rebels, the offspring of liars?
5 who console yourselves with idols under every green tree, who slaughter children in the valleys, under the rocky cliffs?
5
You burn with lust among the oaks and under every spreading tree; you sacrifice your children in the ravines and under the overhanging crags.
6 You belong with the smooth talkers in the valley; they, they are your lot. For them you poured out a drink offering, and presented a grain offering. Should I condone these things?
6
The idols among the smooth stones of the ravines are your portion; indeed, they are your lot. Yes, to them you have poured out drink offerings and offered grain offerings. In view of all this, should I relent?
