Isaiah 65

CEB 1 I was ready to respond to those who didn't ask. I was ready to be found by those who didn't look for me. I said, "I'm here! I'm here!" to a nation that didn't call on my name. NIV 1 "I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.' CEB 2 I extended my hands all day to a rebellious people walking in a way that isn't good, following their own plans; NIV 2 All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations-- CEB 3 people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense on bricks, NIV 3 a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick; CEB 4 who sit in tombs and spend the night among rocks; who eat swine's flesh with broth of unclean meat in their bowls; NIV 4 who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil; who eat the flesh of pigs, and whose pots hold broth of unclean meat; CEB 5 who say, "Keep to yourself! Keep away from me! I'm too holy for you." These people ignite my anger like a fire that burns all day. NIV 5 who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!' Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day. CEB 6 Look, this stands written before me. I won't be silent, but I will repay; I will repay in full measure NIV 6 "See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps-- CEB 7 your sins and the sins of your ancestors as well, says the LORD. Since they burned incense on the mountains, and mocked me in the hills, I will count out to them full payment for their actions. NIV 7 both your sins and the sins of your fathers," says the LORD. "Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills, I will measure into their laps the full payment for their former deeds." CEB 8 The LORD proclaims: As new wine is found in the grape cluster, and someone says, "Don't destroy it, for there is a blessing in it," so I will do for the sake of my servants and not destroy everything: NIV 8 This is what the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and men say, 'Don't destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants; I will not destroy them all. CEB 9 I will bring out offspring from Jacob, and from Judah, heirs to my mountains. My chosen ones will take possession; my servants will dwell there. NIV 9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains; my chosen people will inherit them, and there will my servants live. CEB 10 Sharon will become a pasture for sheep, and the Achor Valley a resting place for cattle, for my people who seek me. NIV 10 Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who seek me. CEB 11 But you who abandon the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for a god of good fortune, and fill cups of mixed wine for a god of fate: NIV 11 "But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, CEB 12 I will offer you to the sword. You will all bow down for slaughter, because I called and you didn't answer; I spoke and you wouldn't hear. You did what I considered evil, and chose what I didn't want. NIV 12 I will destine you for the sword, and you will all bend down for the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me." CEB 13 Therefore, the LORD God says: Look, my servants will eat, but you will hunger. My servants will drink, but you will thirst. My servants will rejoice, but you will be ashamed. NIV 13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; my servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame. CEB 14 My servants will sing with contented hearts, but you will cry out from heartache; with broken spirits you will wail. NIV 14 My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit. CEB 15 You will leave your name behind for my chosen ones to curse: "May the LORD God kill you! May he call his servants by a different name!" NIV 15 You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse; the Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name. CEB 16 Those who pronounce a blessing in the land will do so by the God called Amen; those who make a solemn pledge in the land will do so by the God called Amen. Past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my sight. NIV 16 Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth; he who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes. CEB 17 Look! I'm creating a new heaven and a new earth: past events won't be remembered; they won't come to mind. NIV 17 "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. CEB 18 Be glad and rejoice forever in what I'm creating, because I'm creating Jerusalem as a joy and her people as a source of gladness. NIV 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. CEB 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad about my people. No one will ever hear the sound of weeping or crying in it again. NIV 19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. CEB 20 No more will babies live only a few days, or the old fail to live out their days. The one who dies at a hundred will be like a young person, and the one falling short of a hundred will seem cursed. NIV 20 "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. CEB 21 They will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. NIV 21 They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. CEB 22 They won't build for others to live in, nor plant for others to eat. Like the days of a tree will be the days of my people; my chosen will make full use of their handiwork. NIV 22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. CEB 23 They won't labor in vain, nor bear children to a world of horrors, because they will be people blessed by the LORD, they along with their descendants. NIV 23 They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. CEB 24 Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. NIV 24 Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. CEB 25 Wolf and lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the snake—its food will be dust. They won't hurt or destroy at any place on my holy mountain, says the LORD. NIV 25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.
