James 1:12-18

NLT 12 God blesses the people who patiently endure testing. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. NIV 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. NLT 13 And remember, no one who wants to do wrong should ever say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else either. NIV 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; NLT 14 Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires. NIV 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. NLT 15 These evil desires lead to evil actions, and evil actions lead to death. NIV 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. NLT 16 So don't be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. NIV 16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. NLT 17 Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven's lights. Unlike them, he never changes or casts shifting shadows. NIV 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. NLT 18 In his goodness he chose to make us his own children by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his choice possession. NIV 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
