James 1:13-18

RSV 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted with evil and he himself tempts no one; NIV 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; RSV 14 but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. NIV 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. RSV 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death. NIV 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. RSV 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. NIV 16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. RSV 17 Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. NIV 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. RSV 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. NIV 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
