James 1:2-12

CEB 2 My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. NIV 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, CEB 3 After all, you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. NIV 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. CEB 4 Let this endurance complete its work so that you may be fully mature, complete, and lacking in nothing. NIV 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. CEB 5 But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask. NIV 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. CEB 6 Whoever asks shouldn't hesitate. They should ask in faith, without doubting. Whoever doubts is like the surf of the sea, tossed and turned by the wind. NIV 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. CEB 7 People like that should never imagine that they will receive anything from the Lord. NIV 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; CEB 8 They are double-minded, unstable in all their ways. NIV 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. CEB 9 Brothers and sisters who are poor should find satisfaction in their high status. NIV 9 The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. CEB 10 Those who are wealthy should find satisfaction in their low status, because they will die off like wildflowers. NIV 10 But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. CEB 11 The sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass so that its flowers fall and its beauty is lost. Just like that, in the midst of their daily lives, the wealthy will waste away. NIV 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business. CEB 12 Those who stand firm during testing are blessed. They are tried and true. They will receive the life God has promised to those who love him as their reward. NIV 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
