James 1:2-18

CSB 2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, NIV 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, CSB 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. NIV 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. CSB 4 But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. NIV 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. CSB 5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. NIV 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. CSB 6 But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. NIV 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. CSB 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. NIV 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; CSB 8 An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways. NIV 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. CSB 9 The brother of humble circumstances should boast in his exaltation; NIV 9 The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. CSB 10 but the one who is rich [should boast] in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a flower of the field. NIV 10 But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. CSB 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will wither away while pursuing his activities. NIV 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business. CSB 12 Blessed is a man who endures trials, because when he passes the test he will receive the crown of life that He has promised to those who love Him. NIV 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. CSB 13 No one undergoing a trial should say, "I am being tempted by God." For God is not tempted by evil, and He Himself doesn't tempt anyone. NIV 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; CSB 14 But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. NIV 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. CSB 15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death. NIV 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. CSB 16 Don't be deceived, my dearly loved brothers. NIV 16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. CSB 17 Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning. NIV 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. CSB 18 By His own choice, He gave us a new birth by the message of truth so that we would be the firstfruits of His creatures. NIV 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
