James 2:14-24

NAS 14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? NIV 14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? NAS 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, NIV 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. NAS 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? NIV 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? NAS 17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. NIV 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. NAS 18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." NIV 18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. NAS 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. NIV 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder. NAS 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? NIV 20 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ? NAS 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? NIV 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? NAS 22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; NIV 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. NAS 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. NIV 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. NAS 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. NIV 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
