James 5

NKJV 1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! NIV 1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. NKJV 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. NIV 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. NKJV 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. NIV 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. NKJV 4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. NIV 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. NKJV 5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. NIV 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. NKJV 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. NIV 6 You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you. NKJV 7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. NIV 7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. NKJV 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. NIV 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. NKJV 9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! NIV 9 Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! NKJV 10 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. NIV 10 Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. NKJV 11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord--that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. NIV 11 As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. NKJV 12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your "Yes," be "Yes," and your "No," "No," lest you fall into judgment. NIV 12 Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned. NKJV 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. NIV 13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. NKJV 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. NIV 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. NKJV 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. NIV 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. NKJV 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. NIV 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. NKJV 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. NIV 17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. NKJV 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. NIV 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. NKJV 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, NIV 19 My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, NKJV 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. NIV 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
