Jeremiah 29:8-18

RSV 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream, NIV 8 Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. RSV 9 for it is a lie which they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, says the LORD. NIV 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them," declares the LORD. RSV 10 "For thus says the LORD: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place. NIV 10 This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. RSV 11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. NIV 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. RSV 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. NIV 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. RSV 13 You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, NIV 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. RSV 14 I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. NIV 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." RSV 15 "Because you have said, 'The LORD has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,' -- NIV 15 You may say, "The LORD has raised up prophets for us in Babylon," RSV 16 Thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile: NIV 16 but this is what the LORD says about the king who sits on David's throne and all the people who remain in this city, your countrymen who did not go with you into exile-- RSV 17 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, Behold, I am sending on them sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like vile figs which are so bad they cannot be eaten. NIV 17 yes, this is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will send the sword, famine and plague against them and I will make them like poor figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten. RSV 18 I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, a terror, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them, NIV 18 I will pursue them with the sword, famine and plague and will make them abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth and an object of cursing and horror, of scorn and reproach, among all the nations where I drive them.
