1 Promesas de paz y prosperidad<br />Mientras Jeremías aún estaba detenido en el patio de la guardia, el Señor<br /> le dio un segundo mensaje:

2 «Esto dice el Señor<br />, el Señor<br /> que hizo la tierra, que la formó y la estableció, cuyo nombre es el Señor<br />:

3 pídeme y te daré a conocer secretos sorprendentes que no conoces acerca de lo que está por venir.

4 Pues esto dice el Señor<br />, Dios de Israel: ustedes derribaron las casas de esta ciudad y hasta el palacio real a fin de conseguir materiales para fortalecer las murallas contra las rampas de asalto y contra la espada del enemigo.

5 Ustedes esperan luchar contra los babilonios<br /> pero los hombres de esta ciudad ya están como muertos, porque en mi terrible enojo he decidido destruirlos. Los abandoné debido a toda su perversidad.

6 »Sin embargo, llegará el día en que sanaré las heridas de Jerusalén y le daré prosperidad y verdadera paz.

7 Restableceré el bienestar de Judá e Israel y reconstruiré sus ciudades.

8 Los limpiaré de sus pecados contra mí y perdonaré todos sus pecados de rebelión.

9 ¡Entonces esta ciudad me traerá gozo, gloria y honra ante todas las naciones de la tierra! ¡Ellas verán todo el bien que hago a mi pueblo y temblarán de asombro al ver la paz y prosperidad que le doy!

10 »Esto dice el Señor<br />: ustedes dijeron: “Esta es una tierra desolada de donde la gente y los animales han desaparecido”. Sin embargo, en las calles desiertas de Jerusalén y de las otras ciudades de Judá volverán a oírse

11 risas y voces de alegría. Otra vez se oirán las voces felices de los novios y las novias junto con las canciones alegres de las personas que traen ofrendas de gratitud al Señor<br />. Cantarán:<br />“Denle gracias al Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales,<br />porque el Señor<br /> es bueno.<br />¡Su fiel amor perdura para siempre!”.<br />Pues restauraré la prosperidad de esta tierra a como era en el pasado, dice el Señor<br />.

12 »Esto dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales: esta tierra —a pesar de que ahora está desolada y no tiene gente ni animales— tendrá otra vez pastizales donde los pastores podrán llevar los rebaños.

13 Una vez más los pastores contarán sus rebaños en las ciudades de la zona montañosa, en las colinas de Judá,<br /> en el Neguev, en la tierra de Benjamín, en los alrededores de Jerusalén y en todas las ciudades de Judá. ¡Yo, el Señor<br />, he hablado!

14 »Llegará el día, dice el Señor<br />, cuando haré por Israel y por Judá todas las cosas buenas que les he prometido.

15 »En esos días y en ese tiempo<br />levantaré un descendiente<br /> justo, del linaje del rey David.<br />Él hará lo que es justo y correcto en toda la tierra.

16 En ese día Judá será salvo,<br />y Jerusalén vivirá segura.<br />Y este será su nombre:<br />“El Señor<br /> es nuestra justicia”<br />.

17 Pues esto dice el Señor<br />: David tendrá por siempre un descendiente sentado en el trono de Israel.

18 Y siempre habrá sacerdotes levitas para ofrecerme ofrendas quemadas, ofrendas de grano y sacrificios».

19 Luego Jeremías recibió el siguiente mensaje del Señor<br />:

20 «Esto dice el Señor<br />: si ustedes pudieran romper mi pacto con el día y con la noche de modo que uno no siguiera al otro,

21 solo entonces se rompería mi pacto con mi siervo David. Solo entonces, él no tendría un descendiente para reinar sobre su trono. Lo mismo ocurre con mi pacto con los sacerdotes levitas que ministran ante mí.

22 Y así como no se pueden contar las estrellas de los cielos ni se puede medir la arena a la orilla del mar, así multiplicaré los descendientes de mi siervo David y de los levitas que ministran ante mí».

23 El Señor<br /> le dio a Jeremías otro mensaje y le dijo:

24 «¿Te has dado cuenta de lo que la gente dice?: “¡El Señor<br /> eligió a Judá y a Israel pero luego los abandonó!”. En son de burla dicen que Israel no es digno de ser considerado una nación.

25 Sin embargo, esto dice el Señor<br />: así como no cambiaría las leyes que gobiernan el día y la noche, la tierra y el cielo, así tampoco rechazaré a mi pueblo.

26 Nunca abandonaré a los descendientes de Jacob o de mi siervo David ni cambiaré el plan de que los descendientes de David gobiernen a los descendientes de Abraham, Isaac y Jacob. En cambio, yo los restauraré a su tierra y tendré misericordia de ellos».

1 While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time:

2 “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name:

3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

4 For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword

5 in the fight with the Babylonians : ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.

6 “ ‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.

7 I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before.

8 I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me.

9 Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’

10 “This is what the LORD says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more

11 the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, “Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.

12 “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In this place, desolate and without people or animals—in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.

13 In the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand of the one who counts them,’ says the LORD.

14 “ ‘The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.

15 “ ‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land.

16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior.’

17 For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel,

18 nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.’ ”

19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

20 “This is what the LORD says: ‘If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time,

21 then my covenant with David my servant—and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me—can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.

22 I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’ ”

23 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

24 “Have you not noticed that these people are saying, ‘The LORD has rejected the two kingdoms he chose’? So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation.

25 This is what the LORD says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night and established the laws of heaven and earth,

26 then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.’ ”
