Job 17

LEB 1 "My spirit is pulled down; my days are extinguished; [the] graveyard [is] for me. NIV 1 My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. LEB 2 {Surely} mockery [is] with me, and my eye {rests} on their provocation. NIV 2 Surely mockers surround me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility. LEB 3 Please lay down a pledge for me with yourself; who [is] he [who] will give security for my hand? NIV 3 "Give me, O God, the pledge you demand. Who else will put up security for me? LEB 4 Indeed, you have closed their mind from understanding; therefore, you will not let [them] triumph. NIV 4 You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore you will not let them triumph. LEB 5 He denounces friends for reward, so his children's eyes will fail. NIV 5 If a man denounces his friends for reward, the eyes of his children will fail. LEB 6 "And he has made me a proverb for [the] peoples, {and I am one before whom people spit}. NIV 6 "God has made me a byword to everyone, a man in whose face people spit. LEB 7 And my eye has grown dim from grief, and the limbs of my body [are] all like a shadow. NIV 7 My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow. LEB 8 [The] upright are appalled at this, and [the] innocent excites himself over [the] godless. NIV 8 Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly. LEB 9 But [the] righteous holds on to his way, and {he who has clean hands} increases in strength. NIV 9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. LEB 10 But {all of you must return}--{please come}! But I shall not find a wise [person] among you. NIV 10 "But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you. LEB 11 "My days are past; my plans are broken down-- [even] the desires of my heart. NIV 11 My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart. LEB 12 They make night into day, [saying], 'Light [is] {near to darkness}.' NIV 12 These men turn night into day; in the face of darkness they say, 'Light is near.' LEB 13 If I hope [for] Sheol [as] my house, [if] I spread my couch in the darkness, NIV 13 If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in darkness, LEB 14 [if] I call to the pit, 'You [are] my father,' to the maggot, '[You are] my mother or my sister,' NIV 14 if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,' LEB 15 where then [is] my hope? And {who will see my hope}? NIV 15 where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? LEB 16 Will they go down [to] the bars of Sheol? Or shall we descend together into the dust?" NIV 16 Will it go down to the gates of death ? Will we descend together into the dust?"
