NRS 3 "Lay down a pledge for me with yourself; who is there that will give surety for me? NIV 3 "Give me, O God, the pledge you demand. Who else will put up security for me? NRS 4 Since you have closed their minds to understanding, therefore you will not let them triumph. NIV 4 You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore you will not let them triumph. NRS 5 Those who denounce friends for reward— the eyes of their children will fail. NIV 5 If a man denounces his friends for reward, the eyes of his children will fail. NRS 6 "He has made me a byword of the peoples, and I am one before whom people spit. NIV 6 "God has made me a byword to everyone, a man in whose face people spit. NRS 7 My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my members are like a shadow. NIV 7 My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow. NRS 8 The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent stir themselves up against the godless. NIV 8 Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly. NRS 9 Yet the righteous hold to their way, and they that have clean hands grow stronger and stronger. NIV 9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. NRS 10 But you, come back now, all of you, and I shall not find a sensible person among you. NIV 10 "But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you. NRS 11 My days are past, my plans are broken off, the desires of my heart. NIV 11 My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart. NRS 12 They make night into day; "The light,' they say, "is near to the darkness.' NIV 12 These men turn night into day; in the face of darkness they say, 'Light is near.' NRS 13 If I look for Sheol as my house, if I spread my couch in darkness, NIV 13 If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in darkness, NRS 14 if I say to the Pit, "You are my father,' and to the worm, "My mother,' or "My sister,' NIV 14 if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,' NRS 15 where then is my hope? Who will see my hope? NIV 15 where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? NRS 16 Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? Shall we descend together into the dust?" NIV 16 Will it go down to the gates of death ? Will we descend together into the dust?"
