Job 1:13-22

CSB 13 One day when Job's sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, NIV 13 One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house, CSB 14 a messenger came to Job and reported: "While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys grazing nearby, NIV 14 a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, CSB 15 the Sabeans swooped down and took them away. NIV 16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" CSB 17 That messenger was still speaking when [yet] another came and reported: "The Chaldeans formed three bands, made a raid on the camels, and took them away. They struck down the servants with the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!" NIV 17 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" CSB 18 He was still speaking when another [messenger] came and reported: "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. NIV 18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house, CSB 19 Suddenly a powerful wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people so that they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you!" NIV 19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" CSB 20 Then Job stood up, tore his robe and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped, NIV 20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship CSB 21 saying: Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will leave this life. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Praise the name of the Lord. NIV 21 and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." CSB 22 Throughout all this Job did not sin or blame God for anything. NIV 22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
