Job 27

RSV 1 And Job again took up his discourse, and said: NIV 1 And Job continued his discourse: RSV 2 "As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter; NIV 2 "As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made me taste bitterness of soul, RSV 3 as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; NIV 3 as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils, RSV 4 my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit. NIV 4 my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will utter no deceit. RSV 5 Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. NIV 5 I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity. RSV 6 I hold fast my righteousness, and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days. NIV 6 I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. RSV 7 "Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him that rises up against me be as the unrighteous. NIV 7 "May my enemies be like the wicked, my adversaries like the unjust! RSV 8 For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life? NIV 8 For what hope has the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? RSV 9 Will God hear his cry, when trouble comes upon him? NIV 9 Does God listen to his cry when distress comes upon him? RSV 10 Will he take delight in the Almighty? RSV 11 I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal. NIV 11 "I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal. RSV 12 Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain? NIV 12 You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk? RSV 13 "This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage which oppressors receive from the Almighty: NIV 13 "Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty: RSV 14 If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring have not enough to eat. NIV 14 However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat. RSV 15 Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and their widows make no lamentation. NIV 15 The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them. RSV 16 Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay; NIV 16 Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, RSV 17 he may pile it up, but the just will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver. NIV 17 what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver. RSV 18 The house which he builds is like a spider's web, like a booth which a watchman makes. NIV 18 The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman. RSV 19 He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone. NIV 19 He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone. RSV 20 Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off.
