He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " WEB 16 From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. He answered, "No." NIV 21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." WEB 22 They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" NIV 22 Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself ?" WEB 23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said." NIV 23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' " WEB 24 The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees. NIV 24 Now some Pharisees who had been sent WEB 25 They asked him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" WEB 26 John answered them, "I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don't know, NIV 26 "I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know. WEB 27 he who comes after me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to untie." NIV 27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie." WEB 30 This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.' NIV 30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' WEB 31 I didn't know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel." WEB 32 John testified, saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him. NIV 32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. WEB 33 I didn't recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whoever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' NIV 33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' WEB 34 I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God." NIV 34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God." NIV 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). WEB 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is by interpretation, Peter). NIV 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." NIV 48 "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." WEB 49 Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!" NIV 49 Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." WEB 50 Jesus answered him, "Because I told you, 'I saw you underneath the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these!" NIV 50 Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that." WEB 51 He said to him, "Most assuredly, I tell you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." NIV 51 He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
