John 12:20-36

RSV 20 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. NIV 20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. RSV 21 So these came to Philip, who was from Beth-sa'ida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." NIV 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." RSV 22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus. NIV 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. RSV 23 And Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. NIV 23 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. RSV 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. NIV 24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. RSV 25 He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. NIV 25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. RSV 26 If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him. NIV 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. RSV 27 "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I have come to this hour. NIV 27 "Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. RSV 28 Father, glorify thy name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." NIV 28 Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again." RSV 29 The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." NIV 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. RSV 30 Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. NIV 30 Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine. RSV 31 Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; NIV 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. RSV 32 and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." NIV 32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." RSV 33 He said this to show by what death he was to die. NIV 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die. RSV 34 The crowd answered him, "We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?" NIV 34 The crowd spoke up, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this 'Son of Man'?" RSV 35 Jesus said to them, "The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. NIV 35 Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. RSV 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them. NIV 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light." When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
