John 14

BBE 1 Let not your heart be troubled: have faith in God and have faith in me. NIV 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. BBE 2 In my Father's house are rooms enough; if it was not so, would I have said that I am going to make ready a place for you? NIV 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. BBE 3 And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am. NIV 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. BBE 4 And you all have knowledge of where I am going, and of the way to it. NIV 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." BBE 5 Thomas said, Lord, we have no knowledge of where you are going; how may we have knowledge of the way? NIV 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" BBE 6 Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by me. NIV 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. BBE 7 If you had knowledge of me, you would have knowledge of my Father: you have knowledge of him now and have seen him. NIV 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." BBE 8 Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more. NIV 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." BBE 9 Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father? NIV 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? BBE 10 Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works. NIV 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. BBE 11 Have faith that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me: at least, have faith in me because of what I do. NIV 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. BBE 12 Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father. NIV 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. BBE 13 And whatever request you make in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may have glory in the Son. NIV 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. BBE 14 If you make any request to me in my name, I will do it. NIV 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. BBE 15 If you have love for me, you will keep my laws. NIV 15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. BBE 16 And I will make prayer to the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you for ever, NIV 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- BBE 17 Even the Spirit of true knowledge. That Spirit the world is not able to take to its heart because it sees him not and has no knowledge of him: but you have knowledge of him, because he is ever with you and will be in you. NIV 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. BBE 18 I will not let you be without a friend: I am coming to you. NIV 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. BBE 19 A little time longer, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me; and you will be living because I am living. NIV 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. BBE 20 At that time it will be clear to you that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I in you. NIV 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. BBE 21 He who has my laws and keeps them, he it is who has love for me: and he who has love for me will be loved by my Father, and I will have love for him and will let myself be seen clearly by him. NIV 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." BBE 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, How is it that you will let yourself be seen clearly by us and not by the world? NIV 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" BBE 23 Jesus said to him in answer, If anyone has love for me, he will keep my words: and he will be dear to my Father; and we will come to him and make our living-place with him. NIV 23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. BBE 24 He who has no love for me does not keep my words; and the word which you are hearing is not my word but the Father's who sent me. NIV 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. BBE 25 I have said all this to you while I am still with you. NIV 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you. BBE 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will be your teacher in all things and will put you in mind of everything I have said to you. NIV 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. BBE 27 May peace be with you; my peace I give to you: I give it not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled; let it be without fear. NIV 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. BBE 28 Keep in mind how I said to you, I go away and come to you again. If you had love for me you would be glad, because I am going to the Father: for the Father is greater than I. NIV 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. BBE 29 And now I have given you word of it before it comes, so that, when it comes, you may have faith. NIV 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. BBE 30 After this I will not say much to you, because the ruler of this world comes: and he has no power over me; NIV 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, BBE 31 But he comes so that the world may see that I have love for the Father, and that I am doing as I am ordered by the Father. Get up, and let us go. NIV 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. "Come now; let us leave.
