John 14

NLT 1 "Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. NIV 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. NLT 2 There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. NIV 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. NLT 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. NIV 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. NLT 4 And you know where I am going and how to get there." NIV 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." NLT 5 "No, we don't know, Lord," Thomas said. "We haven't any idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?" NIV 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" NLT 6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. NIV 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. NLT 7 If you had known who I am, then you would have known who my Father is. From now on you know him and have seen him!" NIV 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." NLT 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and we will be satisfied." NIV 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." NLT 9 Jesus replied, "Philip, don't you even yet know who I am, even after all the time I have been with you? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking to see him? NIV 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? NLT 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. NIV 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. NLT 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of what you have seen me do." NIV 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. NLT 12 "The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. NIV 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. NLT 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. NIV 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. NLT 14 Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it!" NIV 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. NLT 15 "If you love me, obey my commandments. NIV 15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. NLT 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. NIV 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- NLT 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. NIV 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. NLT 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans -- I will come to you. NIV 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. NLT 19 In just a little while the world will not see me again, but you will. For I will live again, and you will, too. NIV 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. NLT 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. NIV 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. NLT 21 Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them, and I will love them. And I will reveal myself to each one of them." NIV 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." NLT 22 Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him, "Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?" NIV 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" NLT 23 Jesus replied, "All those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and live with them. NIV 23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. NLT 24 Anyone who doesn't love me will not do what I say. And remember, my words are not my own. This message is from the Father who sent me. NIV 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. NLT 25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. NIV 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you. NLT 26 But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative -- and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit -- he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you." NIV 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. NLT 27 "I am leaving you with a gift -- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. NIV 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. NLT 28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really love me, you will be very happy for me, because now I can go to the Father, who is greater than I am. NIV 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. NLT 29 I have told you these things before they happen so that you will believe when they do happen." NIV 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. NLT 30 "I don't have much more time to talk to you, because the prince of this world approaches. He has no power over me, NIV 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, NLT 31 but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let's be going." NIV 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. "Come now; let us leave.
