John 14

RHE 1 Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God: believe also in me. NIV 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. RHE 2 In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you: because I go to prepare a place for you. NIV 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. RHE 3 And if I shall go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself: that where I am, you also may be. NIV 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. RHE 4 And whither I go you know: and the way you know. NIV 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." RHE 5 Thomas saith to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest. And how can we know the way? NIV 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" RHE 6 Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. NIV 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. RHE 7 If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him. And you have seen him. NIV 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." RHE 8 Philip saith to him: Lord, shew us the Father; and it is enough for us. NIV 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." RHE 9 Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Shew us the Father? NIV 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? RHE 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But the Father who abideth in me, he doth the works. NIV 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. RHE 11 Believe you not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? NIV 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. RHE 12 Otherwise believe for the very works’ sake. Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do: and greater than these shall he do. NIV 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. RHE 13 Because I go to the Father: and whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do: that the Father may be glorified in the Son. NIV 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. RHE 14 If you shall ask me any thing in my name, that I will do. NIV 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. RHE 15 If you love me, keep my commandments. NIV 15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. RHE 16 And I will ask the Father: and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever: NIV 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- RHE 17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him. But you shall know him; because he shall abide with you and shall be in you. NIV 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. RHE 18 I will not leave you orphans: I will come to you. NIV 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. RHE 19 Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more. But you see me: because I live, and you shall live. NIV 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. RHE 20 In that day you shall know that I am in my Father: and you in me, and I in you. NIV 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. RHE 21 He that hath my commandments and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. NIV 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." RHE 22 Judas saith to him, not the Iscariot: Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? NIV 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" RHE 23 Jesus answered and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word. And my Father will love him and we will come to him and will make our abode with him. NIV 23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. RHE 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard is not mine; but the Father’s who sent me. NIV 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. RHE 25 These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. NIV 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you. RHE 26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. NIV 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. RHE 27 Peace I leave with you: my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled: nor let it be afraid. NIV 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. RHE 28 You have heard that I said to you: I go away, and I come unto you. If you loved me you would indeed be glad, because I go to the Father: for the Father is greater than I. NIV 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. RHE 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe. NIV 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. RHE 30 I will not now speak many things with you. For the prince of this world: cometh: and in me he hath not any thing. NIV 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, RHE 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father: and as the Father hath given me commandments, so do I. Arise, let us go hence. NIV 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. "Come now; let us leave.
