John 15

WNT 1 "I am the Vine--the True Vine, and my Father is the vine-dresser. NIV 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. WNT 2 Every branch in me--if it bears no fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. NIV 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. WNT 3 Already you are cleansed--through the teaching which I have given you. NIV 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. WNT 4 Continue in me, and let me continue in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself--that is, if it does not continue in the vine--so neither can you if you do not continue in me. NIV 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. WNT 5 I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who continues in me and in whom I continue bears abundant fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. NIV 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. WNT 6 If any one does not continue in me, he is like the unfruitful branch which is at once thrown away and then withers up. Such branches they gather up and throw into the fire and they are burned. NIV 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. WNT 7 "If you continue in me and my sayings continue in you, ask what you will and it shall be done for you. NIV 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. WNT 8 By this is God glorified--by your bearing abundant fruit and thus being true disciples of mine. NIV 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. WNT 9 As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you: continue in my love. NIV 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. WNT 10 If you obey my commands, you will continue in my love, as I have obeyed my Father's commands and continue in His love. NIV 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. WNT 11 "These things I have spoken to you in order that I may have joy in you, and that your joy may become perfect. NIV 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. WNT 12 This is my commandment to you, to love one another as I have loved you. NIV 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. WNT 13 No one has greater love than this--a man laying down his life for his friends. NIV 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. WNT 14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you. NIV 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. WNT 15 No longer do I call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all that I have heard from the Father I have made known to you. NIV 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. WNT 16 It is not you who chose me, but it is I who chose you and appointed you that you might go and be fruitful and that your fruit might remain; so that whatever petition you present to the Father in my name He may give you. NIV 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. WNT 17 "Thus I command you to love one another. NIV 17 This is my command: Love each other. WNT 18 If the world hates you, remember that it has first had me as the fixed object of its hatred. NIV 18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. WNT 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own property. But because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world--for that reason the world hates you. NIV 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. WNT 20 Bear in mind what I said to you, `A servant is not superior to his master.' If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. NIV 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. WNT 21 But they will inflict all this suffering upon you on account of your bearing my name--because they do not know Him who sent me. NIV 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. WNT 22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have had no sin; but as the case stands they are without excuse for their sin. NIV 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. WNT 23 He who hates me hates my Father also. NIV 23 He who hates me hates my Father as well. WNT 24 If I had not done among them, as I have, such miracles as no one else ever did, they would have had no sin; but they have in fact seen and also hated both me and my Father. NIV 24 If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. WNT 25 But this has been so, in order that the saying may be fulfilled which stands written in their Law, `They have hated me without any reason.' NIV 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.' WNT 26 "When the Advocate is come whom I will send to you from the Father's presence--the Spirit of Truth who comes forth from the Father's presence--He will be a witness concerning me. NIV 26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. WNT 27 And you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the first. NIV 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
