LEB 2 This one was in the beginning with God. NIV 2 He was with God in the beginning. LEB 3 All [things] came into being through him, and apart from him not one [thing] came into being that has come into being. NIV 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. LEB 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. LEB 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. LEB 7 This one came for a witness, in order that he could testify about the light, so that all would believe through him. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. LEB 8 That one was not the light, but [came] in order that he could testify about the light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. LEB 9 The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world. NIV 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. LEB 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world did not recognize him. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. LEB 11 He came to his own [things], and his own [people] did not receive him. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. LEB 12 But as many as received him--to those who believe in his name--he gave to them authority to become children of God, NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- LEB 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. LEB 14 And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. LEB 15 John testified about him and cried out, saying, "This one was [he about] whom I said, 'The one who comes after me is ahead of me, because he existed before me.'" NIV 15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " LEB 16 For from his fullness we have all received, and grace after grace. NIV 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. LEB 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ. NIV 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. LEB 18 No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father--that one has made [him] known. NIV 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
