Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" NIV 22 Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself ?" RSV 23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said." RSV 27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." NIV 27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie." RSV 28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. NIV 28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. RSV 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! NIV 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! RSV 30 This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' NIV 30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' RSV 31 I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel." NIV 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel." RSV 32 And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. NIV 32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. RSV 33 I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' NIV 33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' RSV 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God." NIV 34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God." RSV 38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" NIV 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" RSV 39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. NIV 39 "Come," he replied, "and you will see." RSV 41 He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ). NIV 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). RSV 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter). NIV 42 And he brought him to Jesus. RSV 46 Nathan'a-el said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." NIV 46 "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip. RSV 47 Jesus saw Nathan'a-el coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" NIV 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." RSV 48 Nathan'a-el said to him, "How do you know me?" You shall see greater things than these." NIV 50 Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that." RSV 51 And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." NIV 51 He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
