John 1:4-14

LEB 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. LEB 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. LEB 6 A man came, sent from God, {whose name was} John. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. LEB 7 This one came for a witness, in order that he could testify about the light, so that all would believe through him. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. LEB 8 That one was not the light, but [came] in order that he could testify about the light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. LEB 9 The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world. NIV 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. LEB 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world did not recognize him. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. LEB 11 He came to his own [things], and his own [people] did not receive him. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. LEB 12 But as many as received him--to those who believe in his name--he gave to them authority to become children of God, NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- LEB 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. LEB 14 And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
