John 1:4-14

NCV 4 In him there was life, and that life was the light of all people. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. NCV 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. NCV 6 There was a man named Johnn who was sent by God. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. NCV 7 He came to tell people the truth about the Light so that through him all people could hear about the Light and believe. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. NCV 8 John was not the Light, but he came to tell people the truth about the Light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. NCV 9 The true Light that gives light to all was coming into the world! NIV 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. NCV 10 The Word was in the world, and the world was made by him, but the world did not know him. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. NCV 11 He came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. NCV 12 But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God. NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- NCV 13 They did not become his children in any human way -- by any human parents or human desire. They were born of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. NCV 14 The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw his glory -- the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father -- and he was full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
