John 20

HNV 1 Now on the first day of the week, Miryam from Magdala went early, while it was yet dark, to the tomb, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb. NIV 1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. HNV 2 She ran therefore, and came to Shim`on Kefa, and to the other talmid whom Yeshua loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have laid him!" NIV 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" HNV 3 Kefa therefore went forth, and the other talmid, and they went toward the tomb. NIV 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. HNV 4 They both ran together. The other talmid outran Kefa, and came to the tomb first. NIV 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. HNV 5 Stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying, yet he didn't enter in. NIV 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. HNV 6 Then Shim`on Kefa came, following him, and entered into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying, NIV 6 Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, HNV 7 and the cloth that was on his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself. NIV 7 as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus' head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. HNV 8 Then the other talmid also entered in therefore, who came first to the tomb, and he saw, and believed. NIV 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. HNV 9 For as yet they didn't know the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. NIV 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) HNV 10 So the talmidim went away again to their own homes. NIV 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes, HNV 11 But Miryam was standing outside at the tomb weeping. So, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb, NIV 11 but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb HNV 12 and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Yeshua had lain. NIV 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. HNV 13 They told her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have laid him." NIV 13 They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?" "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." HNV 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Yeshua standing, and didn't know that it was Yeshua. NIV 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. HNV 15 Yeshua said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?" She, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." NIV 15 "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." HNV 16 Yeshua said to her, "Miryam." She turned and said to him, "Rhabbouni!" which is to say, "Teacher!" NIV 16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher). HNV 17 Yeshua said to her, "Don't touch me, for I haven't yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.'" NIV 17 Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' " HNV 18 Miryam from Magdala came and told the talmidim that she had seen the Lord, and that he had said these things to her. NIV 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her. HNV 19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the talmidim were assembled, for fear of the Yehudim, Yeshua came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Shalom be to you." NIV 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" HNV 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The talmidim therefore were glad when they saw the Lord. NIV 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. HNV 21 Yeshua therefore said to them again, "Shalom be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." NIV 21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." HNV 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Ruach HaKodesh! NIV 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. HNV 23 Whoever's sins you forgive, they are forgiven to them. Whoever's sins you retain, they have been retained." NIV 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." HNV 24 But T'oma, one of the twelve, called Didymus, wasn't with them when Yeshua came. NIV 24 Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. HNV 25 The other talmidim therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." NIV 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it." HNV 26 After eight days again his talmidim were inside, and T'oma with them. Yeshua came, the doors being locked, and stood in the midst, and said, "Shalom be to you." NIV 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" HNV 27 Then he said to T'oma, "Reach here your finger, and see my hands. Reach here your hand, and put it into my side. Don't be unbelieving, but believing." NIV 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." HNV 28 T'oma answered him, "My Lord and my God!" NIV 28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" HNV 29 Yeshua said to him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, and have believed." NIV 29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." HNV 30 Therefore Yeshua did many other signs in the presence of his talmidim, which are not written in this book; NIV 30 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. HNV 31 but these are written, that you may believe that Yeshua is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. NIV 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
