NLT 1 The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, NIV 1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, NLT 2 and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. NIV 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. NLT 3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” NIV 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." NLT 4 “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” NIV 4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." NLT 5 But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” NIV 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." NLT 6 Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. NIV 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. NLT 7 Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, NIV 7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. NLT 8 he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. NIV 8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, NLT 9 When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. NIV 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
