John 6:2-12

NLT 2 A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. NIV 2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. NLT 3 Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. NIV 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. NLT 4 (It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) NIV 4 The Jewish Passover Feast was near. NLT 5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” NIV 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" NLT 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. NIV 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. NLT 7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” NIV 7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" NLT 8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. NIV 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, NLT 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” NIV 9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" NLT 10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) NIV 10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. NLT 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. NIV 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. NLT 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” NIV 12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
