Joshua 19

RSV 1 The second lot came out for Simeon, for the tribe of Simeon, according to its families; and its inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the tribe of Judah. NIV 1 The second lot came out for the tribe of Simeon, clan by clan. Their inheritance lay within the territory of Judah. RSV 2 And it had for its inheritance Beer-sheba, Sheba, Mola'dah, NIV 2 It included: Beersheba (or Sheba), Moladah, RSV 3 Hazar-shu'al, Balah, Ezem, NIV 3 Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem, RSV 4 Elto'lad, Bethul, Hormah, NIV 4 Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah, RSV 5 Ziklag, Beth-mar'caboth, Ha'zar-su'sah, NIV 5 Ziklag, Beth Marcaboth, Hazar Susah, RSV 6 Beth-leba'oth, and Sharu'hen--thirteen cities with their villages; NIV 6 Beth Lebaoth and Sharuhen--thirteen towns and their villages; RSV 7 En-rimmon, Ether, and Ashan--four cities with their villages; NIV 7 Ain, Rimmon, Ether and Ashan--four towns and their villages-- RSV 8 together with all the villages round about these cities as far as Ba'alath-beer, Ramah of the Negeb. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Simeon according to its families. NIV 8 and all the villages around these towns as far as Baalath Beer (Ramah in the Negev). This was the inheritance of the tribe of the Simeonites, clan by clan. RSV 9 The inheritance of the tribe of Simeon formed part of the territory of Judah; because the portion of the tribe of Judah was too large for them, the tribe of Simeon obtained an inheritance in the midst of their inheritance. NIV 9 The inheritance of the Simeonites was taken from the share of Judah, because Judah's portion was more than they needed. So the Simeonites received their inheritance within the territory of Judah. RSV 10 The third lot came up for the tribe of Zeb'ulun, according to its families. And the territory of its inheritance reached as far as Sarid; NIV 10 The third lot came up for Zebulun, clan by clan: The boundary of their inheritance went as far as Sarid. RSV 11 then its boundary goes up westward, and on to Mar'eal, and touches Dab'besheth, then the brook which is east of Jok'ne-am; NIV 11 Going west it ran to Maralah, touched Dabbesheth, and extended to the ravine near Jokneam. RSV 12 from Sarid it goes in the other direction eastward toward the sunrise to the boundary of Chis'loth-ta'bor; thence it goes to Dab'erath, then up to Japhi'a; NIV 12 It turned east from Sarid toward the sunrise to the territory of Kisloth Tabor and went on to Daberath and up to Japhia. RSV 13 from there it passes along on the east toward the sunrise to Gath-hepher, to Eth-kazin, and going on to Rimmon it bends toward Ne'ah; NIV 13 Then it continued eastward to Gath Hepher and Eth Kazin; it came out at Rimmon and turned toward Neah. RSV 14 then on the north the boundary turns about to Han'nathon, and it ends at the valley of Iph'tahel; NIV 14 There the boundary went around on the north to Hannathon and ended at the Valley of Iphtah El. RSV 15 and Kattath, Nahal'al, Shimron, I'dalah, and Bethlehem--twelve cities with their villages. NIV 15 Included were Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah and Bethlehem. There were twelve towns and their villages. RSV 16 This is the inheritance of the tribe of Zeb'ulun, according to its families--these cities with their villages. NIV 16 These towns and their villages were the inheritance of Zebulun, clan by clan. RSV 17 The fourth lot came out for Is'sachar, for the tribe of Is'sachar, according to its families. NIV 17 The fourth lot came out for Issachar, clan by clan. RSV 18 Its territory included Jezreel, Chesul'loth, Shunem, NIV 18 Their territory included: Jezreel, Kesulloth, Shunem, RSV 19 Haph'ara-im, Shion, Ana'harath, NIV 19 Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath, RSV 20 Rabbith, Kish'ion, Ebez, NIV 20 Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez, RSV 21 Remeth, En-gan'nim, En-had'dah, Beth-paz'zez; NIV 21 Remeth, En Gannim, En Haddah and Beth Pazzez. RSV 22 the boundary also touches Tabor, Shahazu'mah, and Beth-she'mesh, and its boundary ends at the Jordan--sixteen cities with their villages. NIV 22 The boundary touched Tabor, Shahazumah and Beth Shemesh, and ended at the Jordan. There were sixteen towns and their villages. RSV 23 This is the inheritance of the tribe of Is'sachar, according to its families--the cities with their villages. NIV 23 These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the tribe of Issachar, clan by clan. RSV 24 The fifth lot came out for the tribe of Asher according to its families. NIV 24 The fifth lot came out for the tribe of Asher, clan by clan. RSV 25 Its territory included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Ach'shaph, NIV 25 Their territory included: Helkath, Hali, Beten, Acshaph, RSV 26 Allam'melech, Amad, and Mishal; on the west it touches Carmel and Shihor-lib'nath, NIV 26 Allammelech, Amad and Mishal. On the west the boundary touched Carmel and Shihor Libnath. RSV 27 then it turns eastward, it goes to Beth-dagon, and touches Zeb'ulun and the valley of Iph'tahel northward to Beth-emek and Nei'el; then it continues in the north to Cabul, NIV 27 It then turned east toward Beth Dagon, touched Zebulun and the Valley of Iphtah El, and went north to Beth Emek and Neiel, passing Cabul on the left. RSV 28 Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, Kanah, as far as Sidon the Great; NIV 28 It went to Abdon, Rehob, Hammon and Kanah, as far as Greater Sidon. RSV 29 then the boundary turns to Ramah, reaching to the fortified city of Tyre; then the boundary turns to Hosah, and it ends at the sea; Mahalab, Achzib, NIV 29 The boundary then turned back toward Ramah and went to the fortified city of Tyre, turned toward Hosah and came out at the sea in the region of Aczib, RSV 30 Ummah, Aphek and Rehob--twenty-two cities with their villages. NIV 30 Ummah, Aphek and Rehob. There were twenty-two towns and their villages. RSV 31 This is the inheritance of the tribe of Asher according to its families--these cities with their villages. RSV 32 The sixth lot came out for the tribe of Naph'tali, for the tribe of Naph'tali, according to its families. NIV 32 The sixth lot came out for Naphtali, clan by clan: RSV 33 And its boundary ran from Heleph, from the oak in Za-anan'nim, and Ad'ami-nekeb, and Jabneel, as far as Lakkum; and it ended at the Jordan; NIV 33 Their boundary went from Heleph and the large tree in Zaanannim, passing Adami Nekeb and Jabneel to Lakkum and ending at the Jordan. RSV 34 then the boundary turns westward to Az'noth-tabor, and goes from there to Hukkok, touching Zeb'ulun at the south, and Asher on the west, and Judah on the east at the Jordan. NIV 34 The boundary ran west through Aznoth Tabor and came out at Hukkok. It touched Zebulun on the south, Asher on the west and the Jordan on the east. NIV 40 The seventh lot came out for the tribe of Dan, clan by clan. RSV 41 And the territory of its inheritance included Zorah, Esh'ta-ol, Ir-she'mesh, NIV 41 The territory of their inheritance included: Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir Shemesh, RSV 42 Sha-alab'bin, Ai'jalon, Ithlah, NIV 42 Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah, RSV 43 Elon, Timnah, Ekron, NIV 43 Elon, Timnah, Ekron, RSV 44 El'tekeh, Gib'bethon, Ba'alath, NIV 44 Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath, RSV 45 Jehud, Bene-be'rak, Gath-rim'mon, NIV 45 Jehud, Bene Berak, Gath Rimmon, RSV 46 and Me-jar'kon and Rakkon with the territory over against Joppa. NIV 46 Me Jarkon and Rakkon, with the area facing Joppa. RSV 47 When the territory of the Danites was lost to them, the Danites went up and fought against Leshem, and after capturing it and putting it to the sword they took possession of it and settled in it, calling Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor. NIV 47 (But the Danites had difficulty taking possession of their territory, so they went up and attacked Leshem, took it, put it to the sword and occupied it. They settled in Leshem and named it Dan after their forefather.) RSV 48 This is the inheritance of the tribe of Dan, according to their families--these cities with their villages. NIV 48 These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the tribe of Dan, clan by clan. RSV 49 When they had finished distributing the several territories of the land as inheritances, the people of Israel gave an inheritance among them to Joshua the son of Nun. NIV 49 When they had finished dividing the land into its allotted portions, the Israelites gave Joshua son of Nun an inheritance among them, RSV 50 By command of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, Tim'nath-se'rah in the hill country of E'phraim; and he rebuilt the city, and settled in it. NIV 50 as the LORD had commanded. They gave him the town he asked for--Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim. And he built up the town and settled there. RSV 51 These are the inheritances which Elea'zar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel distributed by lot at Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tent of meeting. So they finished dividing the land. NIV 51 These are the territories that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel assigned by lot at Shiloh in the presence of the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. And so they finished dividing the land.
