1 Pecado de Nadab y Abiú<br />Nadab y Abiú, hijos de Aarón, pusieron carbones encendidos en sus incensarios y encima esparcieron incienso. De esta manera, desobedecieron al Señor<br /> al quemar ante él un fuego equivocado, diferente al que él había ordenado.

2 Como consecuencia, un fuego ardiente salió de la presencia del Señor<br /> y los consumió por completo, y murieron ahí ante el Señor<br />.

3 Así que Moisés le dijo a Aarón: «Esto quiso decir el Señor<br /> cuando dijo:<br />“Demostraré mi santidad<br />por medio de los que se acercan a mí.<br />Demostraré mi gloria<br />ante todo el pueblo”».<br />Y Aarón guardó silencio.

4 Después Moisés llamó a Misael y a Elzafán, primos de Aarón e hijos de Uziel —que era tío de Aarón— y les dijo: «Vengan y llévense los cuerpos de sus parientes de delante del santuario a un lugar fuera del campamento».

5 Entonces se acercaron, los agarraron por la ropa y los llevaron fuera del campamento, tal como Moisés lo había mandado.

6 Luego Moisés les dijo a Aarón y a sus hijos Eleazar e Itamar: «No rasguen su ropa ni dejen de peinarse<br /> en señal de dolor. Si lo hacen morirán, y el enojo del Señor<br /> herirá a toda la comunidad de Israel. Sin embargo, el resto de los israelitas, sus parientes, podrán hacer duelo a causa de la destrucción por fuego de Nadab y Abiú que hizo el Señor<br />.

7 Pero no salgan de la entrada del tabernáculo<br /> o morirán, porque ustedes fueron ungidos con el aceite de unción del Señor<br />». Entonces hicieron lo que Moisés les ordenó.

8 Instrucciones sobre la conducta de los sacerdotes<br />Después el Señor<br /> le dijo a Aarón:

9 «Tú y tus descendientes nunca deben beber vino ni ninguna otra bebida alcohólica antes de entrar en el tabernáculo. Si lo hacen, morirán. Esta es una ley perpetua para ustedes, que se cumplirá de generación en generación.

10 Deben distinguir entre lo sagrado y lo común, entre lo que es ceremonialmente impuro y lo que es puro.

11 Y deben enseñarles a los israelitas todos los decretos que el Señor<br /> les ha dado por medio de Moisés».

12 Luego Moisés les dijo a Aarón y a los hijos que le quedaban, Eleazar e Itamar: «Tomen lo que queda de la ofrenda de grano, después de que se haya presentado una porción como ofrenda especial al Señor<br />, y cómanla junto al altar. Es sumamente santa, por lo tanto, asegúrense de que no contenga levadura.

13 Deberán comerla en un lugar sagrado, porque se les dio a ustedes y a sus descendientes como su porción de las ofrendas especiales que se presentan al Señor<br />. Estos son los mandatos que me fueron dados.

14 Sin embargo, el pecho y el muslo que fueron levantados como ofrenda especial podrán comérselos en cualquier lugar que sea ceremonialmente puro. Estas partes se te han dado a ti y a tus descendientes como su porción de las ofrendas de paz presentadas por el pueblo de Israel.

15 Deberán levantar el muslo y el pecho como ofrenda especial al Señor<br />, junto con la grasa de las ofrendas especiales. Estas partes te pertenecerán a ti y a tus descendientes, tal como el Señor<br /> ha ordenado».

16 Luego Moisés les preguntó qué había sucedido con el chivo de la ofrenda por el pecado. Cuando descubrió que había sido quemado, se enojó mucho con Eleazar e Itamar, los hijos que le quedaban a Aarón.

17 —¿Por qué no comieron la ofrenda por el pecado en el lugar sagrado? —les preguntó—. ¡Es una ofrenda santa! El Señor<br /> se la dio a ustedes para quitar la culpa de la comunidad y purificar al pueblo, y hacerlo justo ante el Señor<br />.

18 Puesto que la sangre del animal no fue llevada al Lugar Santo, ustedes debieron haberse comido la carne en el lugar sagrado, como lo ordené.

19 Aarón le contestó a Moisés:<br />—Hoy, mis hijos presentaron al Señor<br /> tanto su ofrenda por el pecado como su ofrenda quemada. No obstante, me ocurrió esta tragedia. ¿Le habría agradado al Señor<br /> si yo hubiera comido la ofrenda por el pecado del pueblo en un día tan trágico como este?

20 Cuando Moisés escuchó esto, quedó satisfecho.

1 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command.

2 So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.

3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of when he said: “ ‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’ ” Aaron remained silent.

4 Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here; carry your cousins outside the camp, away from the front of the sanctuary.”

5 So they came and carried them, still in their tunics, outside the camp, as Moses ordered.

6 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become unkempt and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the LORD will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the Israelites, may mourn for those the LORD has destroyed by fire.

7 Do not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, because the LORD’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses said.

8 Then the LORD said to Aaron,

9 “You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come,

10 so that you can distinguish between the holy and the common, between the unclean and the clean,

11 and so you can teach the Israelites all the decrees the LORD has given them through Moses.”

12 Moses said to Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, “Take the grain offering left over from the food offerings prepared without yeast and presented to the LORD and eat it beside the altar, for it is most holy.

13 Eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is your share and your sons’ share of the food offerings presented to the LORD; for so I have been commanded.

14 But you and your sons and your daughters may eat the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. Eat them in a ceremonially clean place; they have been given to you and your children as your share of the Israelites’ fellowship offerings.

15 The thigh that was presented and the breast that was waved must be brought with the fat portions of the food offerings, to be waved before the LORD as a wave offering. This will be the perpetual share for you and your children, as the LORD has commanded.”

16 When Moses inquired about the goat of the sin offering and found that it had been burned up, he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, and asked,

17 “Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area? It is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the community by making atonement for them before the LORD.

18 Since its blood was not taken into the Holy Place, you should have eaten the goat in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”

19 Aaron replied to Moses, “Today they sacrificed their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD, but such things as this have happened to me. Would the LORD have been pleased if I had eaten the sin offering today?”

20 When Moses heard this, he was satisfied.
